A valid Boise State University Photo ID (BroncoCard) or Special Borrower card is required to check materials out from the library. Borrowing materials creates a contract with Albertsons Library that materials will be returned on time and in good condition.

Special Borrowers

Special Borrowers
  • Albertsons Library welcomes community users and participates in the Idaho-wide LiLI Express program.
  • Idaho citizens 18 years or older may be eligible for a community borrower card by presenting a current Idaho driver’s license, state ID, or proof of Idaho residency.
  • Boise State graduates are eligible for a community borrower card by presenting a current driver’s license or state ID.
  • Military personnel are eligible for a community borrower card by presenting a current driver’s license and military ID.
  • With a card, the borrower may check out up to ten items at a time.
  • High school students have limited checkout privileges with the approval of their high school librarian. Consult your school librarian for details.

On-Shelf Holds

Students, faculty and staff can request available library items to be pulled from the shelves and held under their name at the Circulation Desk. Service available all days the library is open.

Here’s how to place an on shelf hold:

Access the catalog on the web at:

  • Search for item in the online catalog
  • Select the desired item
  • Click on Hold/Request, at which time you will be prompted to login
  • From the menu, select “On Shelf Hold” and click “OK.”
  • Once the book is pulled, you will receive an email and the book will be held under your name at the Circulation Desk for eight (8) days.


The library has 64 lockers on the third floor (outside of Room 302). Lockers are available to all currently enrolled Boise State University students. There is no per semester cost. Keys can be checked out at the Circulation Desk. Lost locker keys will be assessed a $40.00 replacement fee.

Lost Books

Lost replacement charges are $75.00. Books are considered ‘Lost’ after 40 days. Patrons receive one ‘courtesy notice’ before the item is due and two overdue notices. The library cannot accept replacements for lost material. If an item is returned after it has been billed, the cost of the item will be waived.

Interlibrary Loan Items

Items procured via Interlibrary Loan belong to another library. At the third overdue notice (30 days), the item will be considered lost. Lost replacement charges are $75.00 plus non-refundable $25 processing fee. The library cannot accept replacements for lost Interlibrary Loan material.

  3. Online via the Online Catalog:
      • From the Albertsons Library homepage, select the Your Library Account link.
      • Log in to your account using your my.BoiseState user name and password.
      • Select the materials you want to renew by checking the box next to the item.
      • Select the “Renew Items” button at the bottom of your list
      • Scan down your list of items to verify that the system was able to renew the selected materials.


A hold can be placed using the library catalog and the Hold/Request button.

If you need a book that is checked out to another patron, present your BroncoCard at the Circulation desk, and they can place a hold on the item. You will receive an email when the item is returned, and we will keep it on the hold shelf for up to 8 days.


Books may be recalled from another campus borrower after being checked out for two weeks. In all cases Boise State students and faculty have priority over other borrowers. Special Borrowers may not recall items.

Return Policy & Overdue Fines

Return Policy:

Books may be returned in the book drops at the end of the ramp west of the Library’s front doors, the book drop at the end of the Circulation counter, or may be given to staff at the counter. A drive-up book drop may also be found in front of the Hemingway Center accessible from the Liberal Arts parking lot.


Overdue notices will be e-mailed. Three (3) days prior to the due date, a courtesy notice will be sent. The first overdue notice will be sent 7 days after the due date, followed by a second notice 15 days after the due date.


Fines or fees are payable at the library Circulation Desk by cash, check, or credit card.


Proxy status may be granted to students with an instructor’s permission that allows them to checkout material in the instructor’s name and for a faculty loan period. Forms are available at the Circulation Desk or via the online proxy form found below.
