A new exhibit on the first floor of Albertsons Library features Basque scholarly and popular works published by students and faculty at Boise State, and by authors worldwide. The exhibit was inspired by the book, Lekuak: The Basque Places of Boise, Idaho, written and designed by Meggan Laxalt Mackey, a former Boise State History student and current adjunct faculty member in Basque Studies.
Begun as her Master’s degree thesis project, Lekuak was published by the Center for Basque Studies Press at the University of Nevada-Reno in 2018. Mackey’s work honors “Basque immigrants who had the courage to journey to a place far from home, and those who have worked to preserve Basque culture through education.”
Mackey will give a talk at 2:00 on November 14th in the Frank Church Room on the 2nd floor of the Library about the process of publishing her book. The presentation aims to inspire students to use their academic work as a foundation for public education and publishing.
The library exhibit runs from November 2, 2019 through January 6, 2020.
