Did you know that children who do not continue to read over the summer can lose up to three months of reading achievement that they made during the school year? This summer learning loss, or “summer slide,” is one of the reasons that faculty and staff of Albertsons Library are helping staff Libraries in the Park this summer. Libraries in the Park is a summer reading program that occurs over the noon hour in parks where the Idaho FoodBank is serving lunch as part of Picnic in the Park.
Librarians from all over Boise help staff these Little Libraries in parks each weekday from June 11 through August 10, 2018. Last year, nine employees at Albertsons Library participated in Libraries in the Park at Cassia Park and Ivywild Park. This year eight employees — Kelsey Keyes, Heather Grevatt, Elaine Watson, Memo Cordova, Megan Davis, Deana Brown, Ana Kurland and Heidi Renk — are participating at Ivywild Park on Mondays, from 11:45-12:45
Librarians help kids select books from the Little Library to take home and read. Kids can hear stories read while eating their lunch and then can participate in a variety of activities.
Mondays: Ivywild Park, 416 W. Ivywild St.
