Orpheum Theatre Vancouver

Did you know that Theatre is used as therapy by some psychiatrists? Think about it, what if you were able to work your way through a problem by performing in a scene, or singing a little ditty about your troubles that later you write into a beautiful song? Theatre has an amazing transformative power over individuals. Sometimes we need a hearty laugh or a long hard cry from watching a performance. We all need those releases of emotion sometimes to get through a tough spot. In September’s Book of the Month Display you will find a collection of plays, musicals, textbooks on theatre, and other theatrical based items that are all housed in Albertsons Library. Have a listen to Evita by Andrew Lloyd Webber, read about American Female Playwrights, and laugh out loud with the witty writings of Neil Simon. Live theatre is happening all around Ada and Canyon County so get out there and show your support for the arts and local theatre. Do not forget to go see Boise State University’s Theatre Arts Department’s production of Journey’s End, September 28-30 & Oct 4-7 at 7:30 and Oct 1st and 8th at 2:00 in the Danny Peterson Theatre. The rest of the Theatre Arts Department’s season includes: Heddatron Nov. 9-19, Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street March 8-18 @ the SPEC, and The Wolves 5-15. –Tristan Fishman

I am a Senior at Boise State pursuing my B.A. in Theatre Arts and have been working at Albertsons Library for 2 years. I was last seen as Officer Lockstock in Boise State’s production of Urinetown the Musical. I have 20 years of stage experience and I’m an Actor’s Equity Association (AEA) Candidate.  My first role was Wacky the Ventriloquist Dummy in Annie the Musical in 1997. My mom needed a puppet for the show, but was not willing to fork out the $200 to get one….so she threw me onto some guy’s lap on stage and told me to stay still and move my mouth. I worked for candy and kisses on the check from the cute chorus girls. I was a 7 year old stud. Some of my other Credits include: Anatoly in Chess the Musical, Friar Laurence in Romeo and Juliet, Shrek in Shrek the Musical, Panderus in Troilus and Cressida, and the Baker in Into the Woods just to name a few. — Tristan Fishman
