Boise State’s First Folio Mystery is Finally Revealed!

Folger Library display video still

More than 7,000 people flocked to see Shakespeare’s First Folio at Boise State in August and September. Throughout the month-long exhibition visitors often asked about the history of the particular book that was on display, but for security purposes those details had to be kept under wraps…until now!

On November 19th at the opening reception for First Folio! Shakespeare’s National Tour at the Folger Shakespeare Library in Washington DC, we learned that the book on display here in Boise was Folger First Folio number 77, also known as the “Ingleby Copy.”

Boise State is highlighted multiple times in the exhibition in DC: in a video that plays continuously in the exhibit hall, in an interactive map showcasing each host site across the US, and alongside Folio Number 77.

Each First Folio in the exhibition at the Folger is open to one of the 18 plays by Shakespeare that would have been lost if the book had not been published in 1623.

If you can’t make it to DC to see the exhibition, check out this 360 image …it’s the next best thing!
