PUBLICATIONS
This chapter lists some important documents available in the reference
area that relate specifically to aspects of Idaho life and culture.

The single best general reference book on Idaho is the
IDAHO BLUE BOOK (ref JK7531). Published every two years, this book describes the organization of each branch of government, lists state officials, and gives voting results of recent elections. It also profiles each county and lists economic and demographic facts about
Idaho. The
IDAHO BLUE BOOK is also available on the Internet at:

Another useful reference compilation is CRIME IN IDAHO,
which annually summarizes data submitted by Idaho law enforcement agencies to
the state and federal government. The Internet version is at

IDAHO VITAL STATISTICS (ref HA331 D45a) annually summarizes city, county, and district births, deaths, income, teen pregnancy, etc.
COUNTY PROFILES OF IDAHO (ref HC107.I2 C68) is published every two or three years. It provides statistical data on all of Idaho's forty-four counties.

IDAHO STATISTICAL ABSTRACT (ref HC107 I2 I17) is a particularly comprehensive compilation of statistics. Volume one covers Idaho's economy, social topics and the environment. Volume two has been promised for many years but not yet published.
IDAHO LEGISLATIVE BUDGET BOOK (ref HJ11 I234a – located at the South Ref. Desk) is the best overview of state spending. Published annually by the state legislature, this book shows in great detail where state money comes from and where it goes, agency-by-agency, program-by-program. WEEKLY BILL STATUS (ref KFI6 .D3 which is located in
Legal Reference on Index Row 91B) is the public record of the words and deeds of the Idaho State Legislature. At the end of each legislative session, a
Final Edition presents a complete record of legislation introduced during the session. It also tells the history of each bill, including how it was finally disposed of during the session just ended.
