School Groups Policy
School teachers, in cooperation with their school librarian, are welcome to bring their students to the Albertsons Library for research. The school librarian's participation in these visits is strongly encouraged. Home schooled groups are also invited to use Albertsons Library resources. Arrangements must be made at least two weeks in advance with the Library Instruction Coordinator. To cause the least disruption to Boise State University students, school class visits generally should be scheduled for times when the Library is not busy or during a break at Boise State. Groups are limited to 60 students, with one adult for every 10 students. Upon request, the librarians will offer a brief instruction session and overview of the Library and its resources.
Due to campus demands for instructional and study space, school group instruction cannot be scheduled the first three nor the last three weeks of the semester. Intersession breaks are the preferred time frame. Please take note of our LIBRARY HOURS and BOISE STATE UNIVERSITY ACADEMIC CALENDAR. To schedule a research day at Albertsons Library, please email the Instruction Coordinator directly with the following information:
- Your name, contact information, and work address
- Your school library media specialist's name and contact information
- The class title and number of students
- The research assignment as given to the students
- Learning objectives for the Albertsons Library research day
- Make special note of any specific requests and/or needs
We encourage school teachers to prepare their students ahead of time. If you have computer facilities with Internet access, please have your students:
- Utilize the LiLI databases to familiarize the students with the rich resources already available to them (www.lili.org).
- Search for books of potential interest in the Boise State University Albertsons Library Catalog. Go to http://library.boisestate.edu, click on "Books eBooks and Media".
- Bring the call number of at least one book as a possible starting point for research. Note the floor location of the book.
Printing and Photocopying
Students will want to come prepared with money to make their photocopies during the visit. To print any pages off of the public access computers, however, they will need to purchase a separate print card. It is recommended that the students bring one and five dollar bills and/or change. Our library change machine will only accept one and five dollar bills. We advise that you bring a thumb drive to store resources you find during your visit.
Borrowing Materials
High school students have limited checkout privileges with the approval of their high school librarian. Consult your high school librarian and the Instruction Coordinator for details.
We look forward to providing a positive and effective research experience for you and your students.
