eHRAF world cultures (collection of ethnography)

                    funded by
Subject Content Primary source materials about cultures and ethnic groups, past and present, worldwide.
Contains one well-described culture from each of 60 world regions. Known as the Probability Sample Files (PSF), they are so indicated in Browse Cultures.
Date Coverage Begun in 1937, materials collected since 1994 (as well as retrospective conversions and updates of existing materials) are in the online eHRAF only. From the 1950s until 1993, the annual installments of the HRAF Collection of Ethnography were distributed on microfiche (located in Microforms on the 1st floor). Note that cultures in the HRAF on microfiche and electronic versions are not covered in the same ways; the electronic versions include more recent source materials and not all the older sources are retained.
Expanded and updated annually.
Type of Material Covered Books, journal articles, dissertations, and unpublished material written by missionaries, traders, folklorists, anthropologists and other social scientists. Materials (including illustrations) are indexed to the paragraph level.
