Welcome to the Boise State University Cataloging Department

Purpose:  The cataloging department provides organization and access to the library collections.

The collections are comprised of print, non-print, and electronic resources. The cataloging department is responsible for each title’s bibliographic integrity. All titles are cataloged according to current standards and practices. Original cataloging is created, and shared, for titles without existing records in the international bibliographic utility (OCLC). Classification numbers are assigned to organize the collections. Author, title, series, and subject headings are assigned to provide access points. The cataloging department is responsible for providing cataloging leadership and direction, continuing authority work, ongoing local database maintenance, and compiling collection statistics.
