               Albertsons Library - Student Employment

The following jobs are for students who have a financial aid Work-Study award. If you are not sure if you have been awarded Work-Study, please contact the Financial Aid Office at (208)426-1664, faquest@boisestate.edu, or in room 113 of the Administration Building.


 

Information:  the hours, wages and contact information apply to all Library jobs unless otherwise stated in the specific job description. 

  Wage:      $6.75

Applications are held until the end of the current semester only.

 

Library Hours

Library Administration Hours:  Monday - Friday, 8am - 5pm

  Acquisitions - Clerical  - (currently no openings may leave application with Library Administration if interested in future employment.)
  Hours: Minimum 10 hours per week, between 8AM and 5PM, to be scheduled with Supervisor.
  Duties: Unpack and physically process new books, search and annotate reviews and bibliographies, filing, and miscellaneous projects mostly involving the online catalog and Microsoft Excel, Word and Access
  Requirements: Computer experience (keyboarding, Microsoft Office, internet browsers); neat handwriting; attention to detail; ability to work at the computer for extended periods of time; ability to lift boxes of books, push heavy book trucks, and work with hands sufficiently to physically process books

  Reference - Clerical (currently no openings may leave application with Library Administration if interested in future employment.)
  Hours:

To be arranged. Spring hours available.

  Duties: Processing and upkeep of Government Documents, Maps, Microforms and Reference collections.  Includes shelf reading, filing, shifting, searching, physical processing of items, database use, first floor area maintenance.  Special projects as assigned.
  Requirements:

Ability to type and perform detail oriented/technical work, neat handwriting, dependability for scheduled set hours, self starter, works with minimal supervision, works well alone and in groups.  Familiarity with various computer applications preferred.

 

Additional Criteria:

 

Must have work-study.

Minimum of 10 set hours to 30 hours per week during fall and spring semesters, up to 40 during the summer.

Set hours are non-negotiable, any combination of the above that equals 10 hours or more.

 Initial training hours may/will vary until trained.


  Interlibrary Loan (ILL) - Clerical / Customer Service  (Openings available for spring)
  Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am-5:00pm. Hours arranged with supervisor.
  Duties:

Fill Incoming Requests (Search shelves for correct books and journals, and check out books in ILLiad and Voyager), Copies and Mailing (This position spends a great deal of time copying articles and mailing materials to other libraries.), Filing (Filing of various forms and paperwork.), Check in Returned Books (Check in books using Voyager and ILLiad and return books to circulation.), Answer Phones (when regular staff are not available) and Special Projects as assigned.

   

Expected knowledge, skills, and abilities

-Ability to use a typewriter, copy machine, fax machine

-Computer skills MS Word, MS Access and MS Excel (especially Windows), in a work/office environment.                   

-Ability to concentrate and pay attention to detail

-Ability to alphabetize and learn the LC Classification System

-Ability to understand complex information and ask questions for clarification

-Ability to lift, reach, bend, push to retrieve and/or shelve book material

  Requirements: Must have work-study funds available for Fall 2007

  Circulation Department   (currently no openings may leave application with Library Administration if interested in future employment.)
  Hours: Hours to be arranged with supervisor; shifts in 2-hour blocks or more available during days, evenings & weekends.
  Duties: Shelving books and materials; assisting patrons; answering phones and other duties as needed
  Requirements:
  • Persons hired must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be currently enrolled in Spring 2008 semester.
  • Work-study Funds available for 2007-2008.
