Chiefly U.S. government correspondence and internal FBI memoranda relating to Ernest Hemingway, particularly his activities in Spain during the Spanish Civil War, alleged Communist contacts, his intelligence work in Cuba during World War II, and friendship with Gustavo Duran.  Many documents have been censored.

Gift of John de Groot, 1988, who obtained the documents under the terms of the Freedom of Information Act.
