Richards, Samuel Parker, 1850-1917.



Diaries (20 v.) covering Richards' youth in Salt Lake City, Utah (1870-1874), experiences as a Mormon missionary in Hawaii (1874), family life and work as a storekeeper in Montpelier and Paris, Idaho (1880-1882) and Ogden, Utah (1882-1896), and his life as a rancher near Carey, Idaho (1896- 1917); together with 2 record books (1895-1916) from his work as a notary public. Diaries include references to theater-going and social activities in Salt Lake City in the 1870s, church and family activities, and daily ranching routines; bylaws of Little Wood River Canal Company (1899); and record of water rights from the Little Wood River (1899).


Repository also has typewritten transcripts of 5 diaries (1871-1874; 1880-1881).


Originals donated to Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Historical Dept., Salt Lake City, Utah.
