Philosophy:
Established in 1994 as a part of
the McCain Challenge, the Ethnographic Archive of the Intermountain West
was created by the Department of Anthropology and the Special Collections
Department of the BSU Library to house primary cultural materials representing
a broad cross-section of the people and cultures in the Intermountain
West. Composed primarily of audio, video and "personal documents"
(diaries, ephemera, photographs); the archive seeks to build a repository
of cultural information that is accessible to the public and scholars.
The emphasis in the collection is on documentation of cultural groups located
in the Intermountain West. Cultural materials from occupational,
ethnic, generational, regional, gender-based, recreational and other subcultures
are included.
