This collection consists of typescripts of two books by Dwight William Jensen, Discovering Idaho (Caxton, 1977) and There Will Be a Road (Doubleday, 1978), along with galley proofs of There Will Be a Road. Discovering Idaho is a history book for elementary students, widely used in the Idaho public schools; There Will Be a Road is a novel set in the Idaho mountains. Originally donated by Mr. Jensen to the Idaho State Library, these papers were transferred to the Idaho Writers Archive in the Special Collections Department of Albertsons Library along with the Idaho Author File (MSS 88) in 1988. They form part of the Idaho Writers Archive.
Dwight William Jensen was born in Malad, Idaho, in 1934. He received a bachelor’s degree from Idaho State University and worked as a writer and journalist for both the print and broadcast media. Papers from his journalistic career in Idaho are located in the Idaho State History Society’s Library and Archives. In addition to the above books, Mr. Jensen was the author of Visiting Boise: A Personal Guide (Caxton, 1981). Additional biographical information can be found on page 320 of the typescript for There Will Be a Road (Box 1, Folder 11). Mr. Jensen died in 2006.
