Building the West: Mining Landscape Project MSS 190 in Boise State University, Albertsons Library, Special
Collections Department A collection of field notes, tape-recorded interviews, sketches, slides, and other papers, documenting buildings, structures, architecture, and landscapes associated with mining and mining history in the Coeur d’Alene and Silver Valley region of northern Idaho. Compiled 1995 by faculty and students from Boise State University and University of Utah and by local researchers for the Silver Valley Solidarity Committee. Transferred to the Special Collections Department by Professor Robert McCarl of the Anthropology Department, March 2000. Includes photocopies of documents and clippings dating back to 1887. Interviews contain information on labor history as well as mining. Assembled in 9 volumes (in 3 boxes). Plus 111 cassette tapes. An accompanying "User’s Guide" was compiled by project staff and presented to the Special Collections Department along with the collection. This collection forms part of the Ethnographic Archive of the Intermountain West.
