Finding Government Documents at the Library
[See also: Finding Federal Government Documents on the Internet]
The complete text of some recent U.S. government documents are located on the Internet. You can search for the title of the document on the Internet using Google's Uncle Sam: http://www.google.com/unclesam.
Phone the Library's Reference Desk at 208-426-3301 and ask Reference staff if the library has a copy of the document.
Come to the library and ask for assistance in finding out if our library owns a copy of the document. Reference staff will take you through these steps:
Use an Internet search engine such as Google's Uncle Sam (http://www.google.com/unclesam) to find out if the document is available in full-text on the Internet.
Find out if the Library owns a copy of the document by looking up the title in the Library Catalog, at: http://catalog.boisestate.edu.
If the document is a serial such as a journal, you can also check the Journals List link on the Library's home page at: http://journals.boisestate.edu/.
If you do not find the title in the Library Catalog, search for the title in the GPO (Government Printing Office) Monthly Catalog on the Library's Article Indexes and Databases page at: http://library.boisestate.edu/indexes/. If you find the title, you will need to write down the GPO Number (also called the SuDocs classification number) and then check the Library's Card Catalog for Government Documents to find out if the Library owns a copy.
You can also check:
The Catalog of U.S. Government Publications at http://www.gpoaccess.gov/cgp/index.html.
WorldCat on the Library's Article Indexes and Databases page at: http://library.boisestate.edu/indexes/#w.
If you do not find the title using the tools above, this means that the title was probably not issued through the Federal Depository Library Program and may not be part of Boise State's collection.
If the Library does not own a copy of the document and the document is not available on the Internet, you can fill out an interlibrary loan request at: http://library.boisestate.edu/ILL/ to borrow the title from another library. Note: Only patrons with Boise State IDs can borrow documents through Interlibrary Loan.
If you require additional assistance, you can contact Elaine Watson, Documents/Reference Librarian at 208-426-1737, ewatson@boisestate.edu or Shelly Doty, Library Assistant III at 208-426-3559, sdoty@boisestate.edu.
